El Palacio magazine presents its fourth annual photography contest “Picture This” and this time is looking for photographs of cultural properties in New Mexico. Places such as museums, monuments, parks, trails, and historic properties.

“Picture This!” welcomes amateur and professional photographers—unless you are employed by the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs, our event cosponsor.

We accept traditional film or digital images, color or black and white, landscape, portraiture, professional or amateur. All entries will be judged together. No monetary awards will be given this year, though winners will receive a two-year subscription to El Palacio and a pair of CulturePasses (valued at $25 each) for admission to all New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs museums and state monuments.

Here are the rules:
• All photographs must have been taken since January 1, 2008, so check your filed photos now. If you don’t find something to enter, you have four months to photograph a winner.
• All entries submitted must be either 5×7 in. or 8×10 in. photo-quality prints. Digital submissions should be no smaller than 5x7 in. or larger than 8x10 in., 300 dpi JPEG format. Email to: photocontest@msdgraphics.com. Please, do not submit original photographs; they will not be returned.

• All entries must be received by 3 p.m., Wednesday, January 6, 2010. Mail them to El Palacio, PO Box 2087, Santa Fe New Mexico 87504; or hand-deliver them to the Udall Center for Museum Resources at 725 Camino Lejo in Santa Fe, on Museum Hill.

First, second, and third places will be published in the Spring 2010 issue of El Palacio, will appear on the magazine’s Web site, elpalacio.org, and will earn a place in the Palace of the Governors Photo Archives. Images may also find their way into promotional materials for state museum monuments or parks, and for El Palacio and this photo contest.
