RULES

WHO MAY ENTER: All amateur and professional photographers are welcome to enter the contest, with the exception of individuals affiliated with El Palacio magazine or the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs.

MEDIUM: Prints from color, black-and-white, and digital photographs are allowed. Submit photo-quality glossy prints, either 5x7 or 8x10. No framed prints will be accepted. DO NOT SEND ORIGINALS–they will not be returned.

ENTRIES: To qualify, entries must have been photographed since January 2001 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. This contest coincides with the city's 400th birthday. Winning photos will become part of the permanent record at the Fray Anglico Chávez History Library and Photo Archives, part of the Palace of the Governors/New Mexico History Museum, in Santa Fe. Keep in mind that photography at museums, including the Palace of the Governors, is generally limited to the exterior; photography of exhibitions is not allowed. Please observe your chosen location's policies regarding outdoor and indoor photography, use of flash, etc. Entries must be unpublished and never exhibited. Up to three entries are allowed per individual. An official Entry Form must accompany each entry. Tape the entry form to the back of its corresponding print. Entries without a form taped to the back will be disqualified. Entries will not be returned.

MAIL ENTRIES TO: 2008 Photography Contest El Palacio magazine P.O. Box 2087 Santa Fe, New Mexico 87504 U.S.A. CLOSING DATE: Mailed entries must be postmarked no later than Friday, November 21, 2008. Hand-delivered entries will not be accepted after 5:00 p.m., Friday, November 21, 2008.

JUDGING: Entries will be judged on the basis of artistic merit, photographic quality, and effectiveness in expressing the contest themePicture This: Santa Fe at 400 Years Old! Winners will be published in the spring 2009 issue of El Palacio magazine.

RESTRICTIONS: You must own all rights to any photographs entered in this contest. It is the responsibility of the contestant to ensure that publication of his/her photographs by El Palacio magazine raises no legal claims. Participants retain the copyright to their photograph(s) but must agree to allow El Palacio magazine unlimited use of their photographs for publishing in print or electronic form for editorial or promotional purposes. Use of photographs will not be compensated, although a name credit will be given.

LIMITATION ON LIABILITY: El Palacio magazine will not be responsible for the loss of, or damage to, any submitted prints.

GENERAL AGREEMENT: Submission of an entry to the contest automatically constitutes the contestant's acceptance of all conditions set forth in the above rules. Entries not complying with the above rules will be disqualified.
